Yes, it's true, finding a conservative V-neck, black, washable sweater suitable for missionaries is actually quite difficult.  So difficult in fact that we had to manufacture our own for a time until we found these sweaters from a company called Andrew Rohan.

Here's the story-- a few years ago, I met the top brass at Andrew Rohan and they introduced me to this sweater which they have sold to some of their most demanding clients who needed a very nice looking sweater that would wear forever and be very easy to care for.  I personally tried them out by torturing them through store remodels, many, many washings and dryings, paint projects, working on cars, out at the warehouse, etc. etc. and I love them.  October through April it is pretty much all I wear.  A black T-shirt, a black Rohan sweater, jeans, some Walk Sox, and a pair of Propet or Dansko shoes.

For the moms out there, you know deep down in your heart that despite your training, your son won't want to dry clean a sweater and there is no way he will want to handwash and block and flat dry his sweater on his mission, so get this easy care sweater.

Andrew Rohan sweaters are all acrylic which means they are warm as well as very easy to care for and extremely durable.  The V-neck is recommended for missionaries as it is a dressier look and shows off your rie and shirt collar.  Most missions discourage round neck "crew" type sweaters.  The collar, cuffs, and bottom of the sweater are all reinforced so they won't stretch out and go "bell shaped"

This sweater also features:

Heavy duty Tuff-Pil ™ Plus which keeps the sweater from forming those little balls
High-tech acrylic fiber with lo-pil performance
Colorfast and durable acrylic-- that means you will still have a black sweater next year and not a faded, splotchy grey thing.
Machine washable and it can be dried in a dryer on medium heat-- a must for missionaries
