Solid Charcoal Polyester/Wool blend Edwards Two Button Work Suit with Double Pleated Pants

Edwards work suits are designed to be durable and look good over the long term. I emphasize that because an all wool suit or a cheaper poly wool suit will look good for a few months, but over time the "guts" of the suit get worn out and cause the suit to sag or wrinkle.  The strength of the Edwards work suit is that they are designed to last at points in which other suits most commonly fail. Namely:

  • Fabric (3 ply instead of 2 ply prevents wear)

  • Buttons (thicker “bowling ball” material, lock-stitched to stay on)

  • Zippers (YKK® nylon zippers, the premier brand, are much more durable)

  • Pockets (Heavy duty poly/cotton blend last a long, long time)

  • Stitching (Added stitching in stress areas such as front pockets and pant seat seams)

Dress Suit

Edwards Suit

Purpose of design

Fashion Suit. Designed for fashion and style. Intended to wear for a “season.” Fashion is, as a business and by definition, driven by changes in trends and selling “updates.” Therefore, fashion designers, retail stores, salespeople, etc. benefit from clothing designed with fabrics, trims, etc. that have “planned obsolescence.” In other words, their paychecks depend on their clothing not lasting (either going “out of style” or wearing out) very long

Work suit. Designed to last and look good over the long haul. Fabric is designed to be durable in color and wear.

Some features are:

  • Fabric color specifications assure more consistency; can add or replace separates.

  • Components (buttons, thread, etc.) are “uniform-grade”.

  • Added stitching in key areas of stress or wear.

Manufacturer and retailer have a vested interest in longevity of garment.

Cleaning Cycle

Designed to be dry cleaned 10-20 times over its life

Designed to be industrially dry-cleaned up to 50 times

Fabric

2-ply fabrics, super 100s + fabrics designed for looks and to be lightweight for comfort in an indoor “office” environment

3 ply worsted wool (33% more durable) and Dacron polyester designed to insure comfort, breathability, and, most importantly, durability in a work setting. NEW!! Edwards now incorporates natural stretch in all of their suits. This gives the fabric 8-10% natural stretch which is comparable to a Lycra® blend.

Buttons, thread, zippers, interlinings

Usually fairly lightweight stitching on buttons, nylon dress zippers, lightweight thread built for non-puckering on fine fabrics. Interlinings are usually lighter weight materials that may pucker or pull over repeated washings and wearings.

Thicker thread on all buttons, YKK zippers, polyester core thread. Interlinings are polyester so they will last longer than standard Rayon liners used on “dress suits”, pockets are heavy duty poly/cotton blends.

Alterations:  The pants and jacket come unaltered.  You can choose to alter them on your own, or have the pants hemmed free of charge at either of our stores.  Our Layton store is just north of Salt Lake City, and our Orem store is on the way to the Provo MTC.

Suit Separates:  We offer suit separates so you are not forced to buy a one pant or two pant suit.  If you need one pair of pants, that is great.  If you need two or three pair of pants, that is fine too.  If you need additional pants, you can order those later.  If you are wear a 44 Regular jacket and a 32 waist pant, no problem!  No drastic six inch alterations needed to the pant waist, just order the 32 pant.

Sizing:  The jackets are fairly standard size while the pants are a little more slim cut to eliminate billowing pant fabric while biking.  When measuring, you have a few options.  You can go to a local tuxedo shop and get measured, or you can measure yourself with a fabric measuring tape.  If you decide to take your own measurement, here are a few hints to help you get the right fit.

  • Measure around your chest only (arms up, just around the thickest part of your chest).  This should be fairly close to your jacket size.
  • Measure around your chest and arms (arms down-- measure around the whole chest and arms).  This number minus seven should be fairly close to the jacket size.
  • Take your waist measurement and add 7.  That should also be about the jacket size.
  • To be safe, order the largest of the three numbers above.
  • On length,  here is a general guide.  5'5" to 5'7" is a short, 5'8" to 5'11"=regular, 6' to 6'3"=long, and 6'4 and above are Extra long.
  • On waist size, DON"T go by what you wear in jeans or other pants-- they are usually "vanity sized" so your suit pant measurement will be about 2 inches larger than what you will wear in "regular" pants.  Measure your waist (usually about 2-3 finger widths below your navel) and go with that exact measurement.
  • A word on low rider pants.  Don't do it!  If you low ride your pants and have them hemmed that way, then when your MTC branch president asks you to pull up your pants, then all of the sudden you are wearing "floods" and will need to get your pants re-hemmed.
