We like to be thourough with testing products since if they don't last we have to pay to replace them.  I have worn Propet shoes every day for about a year-- shoveling walks, walking to the store, walking miles and miles and miles at trade shows, etc. etc.  I do have to admit a little bit of cheating-- I replaced the factory insoles with moldable insoles, but they lasted really, really well and with a little shoe polish, they look great for church or for non-tuxedo hoity-toity events.  Had it not been for our Dansko rep coming out with a free pair of their new men's shoes for me, I would still be wearing them today.

 

So, bottom line.  I highly recommend the Propet shoes.  They are the only shoe I have ever heard of that has a 1,000 mile sole guarantee, so they are built for serious walking but they look really nice as well, so if you want a $300 Italian shoe look on top of a super durable, super comfortable sole, these are the shoes for you.

 

These Propet's are actually custom made just for MissionaryMall and no one else carries them.  Ironically, they named them after me, so they are officially known as the "Jon" so I called them the Propet / MissionaryMall shoe.   I have to credit the 2-year guarantee for this custom made shoe.  Over the last 8 years, Propet have been excellent shoes for missionaries, but even so, we saw a small percentage coming back.  We talked with Propet, showed them several hundred pictures of worn out shoes that we had received from missionaries over the years, and we went back to the drawing board.  What we came up with was this shoe.  It has the traditional comfort of a Propet with an upgraded sole that we stole from a boot.  It has a leather upper and leather quarter lining.  The padded collar keeps the shoe comfortable around the back of the ankle.  Internal and external heel counters help straighten your stride, removeable "Ortholite" insoles (in case you want a custom molded insole or orthotic), and a fiberglass shank for rigidity in the sole without the weight of steel.
