Spring is here and summer is just right around the corner, meaning that your wardrobe should be making some changes.
I'm talking about color. White, actually.
Now let me address the "no wearing white before Memorial Day" thing.
This "rule" was invented in the early 1900's by the wealthy who liked to wear all white during the hot summer days. Now there's nothing wrong with wearing white all summer. In fact, I'm all for it. However, there's more to it all. Because the wealthy started it, they wanted to make the all white look their thing, thus further creating the divide between the wealthy and the working class. Then, someone decided to set dates for when it was acceptable to wear white, declaring that you couldn't wear white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day...does it really matter?
Let it be known that I declare this rule a bunch of baloney and no longer valid.
HOWEVER. Be wise with white. You still need to dress for the season. It's not logical to wear a white cotton dress in the dead of winter. That's like wearing all black flannel in the middle of the summer. It just doesn't make sense.
If you are going to wear white during the colder seasons, pay attention to the fabric. Silk, wool, and other heavier fabrics are best. Once spring and summer come along you can bring out the lighter fabrics like cotton and linen. I would also suggest holding out on wearing all white for the summer. Doing so in the winter just looks a little off.
As for the "don't wear white before Memorial Day and don't wear if after Labor Day" ordeal: ignore it. I would say that come April, if it's warm and sunny, wearing white is OK. I would also say that wearing white all the way to the end of September, if the weather still permits it, is still acceptable. That gives you half of the year to wear all the white you want!
Another thing. When they say white do they mean all articles of clothing that are white?
No. This rule generally applies to white pants, dresses, skirts, and shoes. White tops, depending on the material, are usually fair game all year.
So there's my white rant.
That being said, check out these darling white dresses we've just released!
